Edith J. "Mickie" Chapman

Edith J. “Mickie” Chapman, 83, former Litchfield area resident, passed away Wednesday (06/06/2012) at Magnum Care in Adrian. She was the born March 20, 1929, in Montcalm County to George G. and Beulah L. (Brazee) Summers and graduated from Litchfield High School in 1947. She worked in the food service department at Litchfield Community Schools for over 20 years where she was known as “Sarge.” She had also given piano lessons and worked at the Litchfield Grain Company. Mickie was a member of the Litchfield Rebekah Lodge, a member of the Litchfield Congregational Church for 64 years and liked to write poetry.

On December 3, 1949, she married Carl L. Chapman in Litchfield and he preceded her in death in 1991. Survivors include two daughters, Sandra (Raymond) Rupp of Pioneer, OH, and Tracy (Ed) Duncan of Valley, AL; one son, Michael Chapman of Hillsdale; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one son (Mark), one grandson (Kenneth), and two brothers (Grove and Warren Summers).

Funeral services will be held Saturday, 2:00 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield, with Reverend Michael Murray officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Litchfield. Visitation is scheduled Friday from 6:00-8:00 PM. Memorials are suggested to the Litchfield Congregational Church or the Litchfield District Library.
