Richard C. "Dick" Herman Jr.
March 31, 1946 - June 11, 2012
Richard C. "Dick" Herman Jr., 66 of Monroe and formerly of Jonesville, passed away Monday, June 11, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Monroe. He was born March 31, 1946 in Hillsdale to Richard A. and Esther A. (Butcher) Herman. Dick married Shawn Combs on May 31, 1997 and she survives.
Dick graduated from Jonesville High School in 1964 and he attended Michigan State University farmers short course. Dick was a farmer, truck driver and trucking instructor. He was a member of the St. Paul Methodist Church in Monroe and the Rockwood Area Lions Club. Dick was an advocate for the truck driving profession, member of Teamsters and a life member of OOIDA. He was an avid fisherman and gardener. Dick was known for his joke telling abilities and his genuine and caring spirit.
In addition to his wife Shawn, Dick is survived by two children, Kathy (Gary) Albright of Reading and Rick (Roxanne) Herman of Coldwater; four grandchildren, Scott and Shannon Albright of Reading and Elise and Logan Herman of Coldwater and a step-son, Marc (Carey) DuVall of Interlochen, Michigan.
Dick was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rudy A. Herman.
Funeral services for Dick Herman Jr. will be Friday, June 15, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the Jonesville United Methodist Church with Pastor Craig Pahl officiating. Interment will follow at Moscow Plains Cemetery in Moscow Township. The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville and on Friday from 1:00 until the service time at the church.
Memorial contributions are suggested to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
