Paul W. "Stoney" Stone

August 8, 1942 - January 21, 2012

Paul W. "Stoney" Stone, 92, of Hillsdale, passed away Saturday January 21, 2012 at the Mac McGuire Skilled Nursing Facility in Hillsdale. He was born July 17, 1919 in Allen Twp. to Oramel J. and Mary (Ellsworth) Stone. He was married August 8, 1942 to Phyllis Louise Emery and she preceded him in death October 16, 1984.

Paul was a graduate of Hillsdale High School and a WWII veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a barber for over 64 years and was the former owner of the Temple Barber Shop and Stoney's Gun Shop. He was a founding member of the Hillsdale County Conservation Club, a life member of the Hillsdale Masonic Lodge #32, and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.

Surviving are his daughter, Barbara (Cecil) Blake of Hillsdale; two grandchildren, Dr. Paul (Amanda) Mackie and their children Quinn and Grace, and Master Sergeant Jeffrey (Jennifer) Mackie and their children Johnston, Muriel and Maeve.

Besides his wife, Phyllis, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters Ruth Spieth and Betty Guise.

Graveside memorial services for Paul Stone will be held Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at 11:00 a.m., at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, June 25th, from 6-8 p.m., at the VanHorn-Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hillsdale County Conservation Club Youth

I remember talking to him when he would come in to Nash's. He was a very nice man and has a wonderful family that will truly miss him. I am glad to have known him I am sorry for your loss.

Stoney was my barber back in the 80s. I always enjoyed the stories he would tell when I was in the chair and the haircut was always quite sharp. I hadn't seen him in years--since moving away from Hillsdale--but he was a big part of my childhood and I'm glad to have known him and will remember him fondly. Condolences to the family and may he rest in peace.

Farewell friend of 40 years. Our time together to talk was less over the years as my hair was less but the talks were none the less good times. Rest in peace and rise in glory.
