Michael A. Crabill

August 30, 1950 - July 30, 2012

Michael A. Crabill, 61, of Coldwater, passed away Monday (7/30/2012) at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo. He was born August 30, 1950, in Coldwater to Grover and Shirley (Knight) Crabill and she survives in Coldwater. He was a 1969 graduate of Coldwater High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam Era. Michael had worked at Acorn Products and Crotty Corporation in Quincy and was a member of the Coldwater American Legion Post #52. Music was his passion and he was a talented musician, playing bass guitar for many years in the Black Rose Band and Krazy Kats, as well as many other bands over the years.

Also surviving are four daughters, Kristina (Greg) Rodriguez of Bronson, Patti (Ben) Smith of Florida, Sarah (Matt) Counterman and Diana Rodriguez of Coldwater; one sister Renee (Jeff) Foley of Coldwater; three brothers, Phillip (Wendi) Crabill, Scott Crabill, and Bryan (Tammy) Crabill, all of Coldwater; sister-in-law, Debra Crabill, of Coldwater; 17 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father; wife, Brenda (Woods) Crabill in 2011; daughter and son-in-law, Josie and Gary Newman; brother Gerald; and an infant brother.

Cremation has taken place and private family services will be held. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association. Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel, Quincy.

We are so sorry to hear of Mike's passing and our hearts go out to your entire family. Joe and Mike went to High School together and were good friends. Mike loved music, and yes especially Iggy Pop, and really loved the bass guitar. Joe played keyboards at that time and the Black Rose band was formed. Mike really had the "look" also for a rock musician. Mike played with Joe and I for several years in different bands until Joe began playing bass and I played keyboards. Mike didn't have the attitude problem that comes along with so many musicians. He was very easy going and easy to work with. We enjoyed playing with him so much. We have lost a real friend and will miss him dearly.

Aunt Shirley, and all my cousins, I'm devastated to hear about Michael. I'm sorry for yet another loss for you to bear. He was a great guy with a big heart. I love you all.

So sorry for your loss Scott,Phil, Brian and Renee, I remember Mike from a long time ago. I think of him every time I listen to Iggy Pop.

Mike's talent was obvious when he was young. I knew him from the 'Black Rose Society' with Dave Davis and friends. Such a likable person and genuinely fun.
