Pauline R. Kelley

Pauline R. (Smith) Kelley, 96, formerly of Hudson, died early Thursday morning, February 9, 2017, at Brookdale of Adrian, while under the gentle care of her family and Hospice of Lenawee. She was born March 16, 1920, in Hudson, to the late Clyde R. and Margaret D. (Rollins) Smith. She married Delancy Kelley on August 2, 1942, in Lincoln, NE, and he preceded her in death in 1955.
Pauline graduated from Hudson High School Class of 1938, and earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Eastern Michigan University. She spent her career teaching at Hudson Area Schools, and held offices as past secretary of the Michigan Education Association of Hudson Area, president of Lenawee Reading Council, and secretary for the Lenawee County Retired School Personnel. She also belonged to the Delta Kappa Gamma society, and once served as presidents of both the Hudson Women’s Club and General Federation of Women’s Club of Lenawee County. Pauline was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Hudson.
Surviving are two daughters, Sandra D. Kelley and Phyllis A. (Darrell) White, all of Adrian; two granddaughters, Bethany (Paul) Hammerstrom of Adrian and Allison Lambert of Baton Rouge, LA; and three great-grandchildren, Kaitlin, Junior, and Samuel. Preceding Pauline in death besides her parents and husband, are a sister, Myrna Pearson; brother, Russell Smith; and a granddaughter in infancy.
A funeral service for Pauline will be held on Monday, February 13, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hudson with Pastor John Rath officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Saturday, February 11, from 3 until 6 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
Memorial contributions in honor of Pauline are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Hudson or Hospice of Lenawee.
