June 30, 1927 - June 6, 2017

Doris J. Allen, 89, of Adrian, formerly of Morenci, died Tuesday morning, June 6, 2017, at Lenawee Medical Care Facility in Adrian. She was born June 30, 1927, in Fayette, OH, a daughter of the late Dale and Dessa (Liby) Hale. She married Robert Allen on August 14, 1948, and he preceded her in death on September 23, 1997.

Doris graduated from Gorham-Fayette High School and later Elkhart Business School. She was a member of the Morenci First Congregational Church and the Fairfield Order of Eastern Star. As a dedicated farmwife, Doris enjoyed preparing meals and baking for the family and farmers in the field. She would feed the calves and keep up with chores, all while taking care of the daily domestic demands of the household. Doris participated in church bazaars and Ladies Aid Suppers. She loved music, and enjoyed playing the piano, and possessed the talent to play by ear most of the time. Other hobbies included being an avid sewer and golfing with her husband for many years.

Doris leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Linda (Terry) Marlatt of Adrian and Nancy (Stanley) Wilson of Britton; a son, Leslie Allen of Morenci; twelve grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband of over 48 years, Doris was preceded in death by all of her siblings, Dorene Pickles, Durlene Rice, Donelda Metcalf, and Robert Hale.

A memorial service for Doris will be held on Monday, June 12, 2017, at 2:00 p.m. at the Morenci First Congregational Church with Pastor Greg Morrison officiating. Interment will take place in the Porter (Packard) Cemetery in Seneca Township. The family will receive friends for visitation for one hour preceding the service at the church, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are being handled by the Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci.

The family wishes to extend a special “Thank You” to Brookdale of Adrian and the Lenawee Medical Care Facility, whose staffs were wonderful in their compassionate care for Mom.

Memorial contributions in honor of Doris are suggested to the Morenci First Congregational Church or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
