Marilyn Bischoff Sawyer

Marilyn Bischoff Sawyer died June 14, 2017 at the SECU Jim and Betsy Bryan Hospice Home of the University of North Carolina Health System in Pittsboro, North Carolina. She was 85 years old.

She was born July 16, 1931 in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the oldest child of William Frederick Bischoff and Sallie Frasier Bischoff. She grew up in Ypsilanti, Michigan and was a graduate and member of the class of 1949 of Ypsilanti High School. She attended Eastern Michigan University. Before her marriage she was employed in the administrative offices of the Kaiser-Frasier Manufacturing Company. Following her marriage she worked at the University of Michigan Medical Center in the department of otolaryngology

She married Thomas Rarick Sawyer on August 30, 1952 at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Ypsilanti. The couple had four children: Mrs. Lynn (Michael) Schmaltz, Miss Susie Ann Sawyer, Stephen Walter(Julie) Sawyer and Mrs. Molly (Cary) Hiller. They have five grandchildren: Ms. Susie Schmaltz, Mrs. Samantha (Emmett) Hiller Drake, Thomas Hiller, Dr. Stephen Sawyer Jr. and Miss Maggie Sawyer. The Sawyers have been married 64 years.

After her husband's graduation from the University of Michigan Medical School the couple moved to Iowa City, Iowa for 5 years, then a year in Nashville, Tennessee, before finally settling in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where they lived for 23 years. Retirement took them to Pinehurst and Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Marilyn was dedicated to her family and was always extremely proud of them. She brought a loving and caring spirit to everything she did. What Marilyn loved most in life was doing things for others and helping people.

A graveside service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 3:00 p.m..at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsdale, Michigan. Arrangements are entrusted to the Van Horn- Eagle Funeral Home in Hillsdale
