DeVere J. Noakes
February 12, 1935 - June 17, 2017
DeVere J. Noakes, 82, of Albion, passed away Saturday, June 17, 2017 at his home after a long battle with cancer. DeVere was born February 12, 1935 on the family farm west of Albion to Carson and Gladys Noakes.
He farmed in Albion and Litchfield areas for 58 years. DeVere was active in the National Farmers Organization since 1964 and was a national director from 1973 to 2005. He was a member of Albion VFW Post #3672 for 60 years, serving the last twelve years as Commander. DeVere was also a member of Litchfield United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post # 55 in Albion. He was an avid collector of antiques and tractors. DeVere’s zest for life will be greatly missed.
DeVere is survived by his wife Coralea (Ackerman) Noakes; four children, Doreen (James) Boyer, Debra (Kevin) Huffman, John (Jeanette) Noakes and Phil (Debra) Noakes; seven grandchildren, Jason, Amber, David, Justin, Sarah, Amanda and Madison; nine great grandchildren, Riley, Gracen, Jace, Reagan, Cooper, Rowan, Braxton, Tucker and LeNora; sisters, Iris Ball, Rexine Cockroft and Vernice Gaines.
He was preceded in death by first wife Judy of 56 years; parents; brother, Leon and sister, Shirley.
Funeral services for DeVere J. Noakes will be Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at 11:00 AM at the Litchfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Julie Yoder Elmore officiating. Interment will follow in Riverside Cemetery in Albion. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, June 26, 2017 from 4-8 at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield.
Memorials are suggested to the Calhoun County Relay for Life or Litchfield United Methodist Church.
