Lennis G. Lucas

Lennis G. Lucas, 82, of Territorial Rd., Waldron, died early Thursday morning, July 6, 2017, at the Evergreen Manor in Montpelier, OH, following declining health and a recent fall. Born July 20, 1934, in Luray, VA, she was a daughter of the late Fred and Vertie (Hinton) Gochenour.
Lennis lived her formative years in Luray, VA, where she married the love of her life, James W. Lucas, on November 25, 1954. He survives.
Lennis and James have been residents of rural Waldron for the past 54 years, and she served her family as a farmer’s wife, homemaker and loving mother. She was a member of Freedom Farm and attended Betzer Community Church in Camden.
Surviving to mourn her loss in addition to her husband of over 62 years, James, are two sons, Larry (Debra) Lucas of Morenci and Chester (Angela) Lucas of Waldron; two brothers, Nelson Gochenour of Luray and Garnett Gochenour of Stanley, VA; three sisters, Hilda Moyer of Luray, Valda (Marlin) Short of Archbold, OH, and Ruth Stump of Harrisonburg, VA; eight grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, David Lucas; four sisters, Joyce, Dorothy, Alma, and Rena; and four brothers, Nevin, Elwood, Carson, and Keith.
Private services for Lennis will be held with Pastor Kim Repp officiating, and burial will take place in the Waldron Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
Lennis’s wishes were for memorial donations to be given in her name to Gideons International.
