Zale A. Fether

Zale A. Fether, 86, of Bowling Green, OH, formerly of Fayette, died Sunday, July 23, 2017, at Heritage Corner Assisted Living in Bowling Green. Zale was born March 26, 1931, in Franklin Township, Ohio, the son of Jacob and Lulu (Towne) Fether. On January 11, 1953, he married M. Jacquelin Lloyd in Morenci. Together they lived most of their lives in the Fayette area, eventually retiring and sharing their time between their homes in Gladwin, MI, and Leesburg, FL.
Jackie recently preceded Zale in death on March 9, 2016.
Zale was an accomplished finish carpenter and prided himself on his attention to detail. He learned his trade working with Charlie Eicher, helping to build custom homes in the Fulton County area from the time Zale was 17-years-old. He later worked at the former Parker Rust Proof in Morenci, retiring after 26 years in 1990.
Zale’s true passion was the outdoors, and he enjoyed nothing more than working around his farm, cutting wood and maintaining his property. He was also intensely interested in the geography and topography of Northwest Ohio, studying maps, weather patterns, natural resource sites, and land formations.
Zale is survived by three sons, Michael (Martha) of Bowling Green, OH, Kenneth (Diane) of Manitou Beach, MI, and Curtis (Irene) of Fayette; and one brother, Irvin (Lonnie) Fether of Adrian.
He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Jonathan Fether of Archbold, OH, Ashley (Jacob) Reinecke of Villa Hills, KY, Joel (Jessica) Fether of Columbus, OH, Zachary (Amber) Fether of Winter Garden, FL, Andrew Fether of Delta, OH, Jennifer (Rob) Goldsmith of Sylvania, OH, Matthew (Heidi) Fether of Sylvania, Ohio, and Brian (Colleen) Fether, of Fayette; three step-grandchildren, Garrett Masters of Morenci, Matthew (Heather) Masters of Saginaw, MI, and Brittan (Jolie) Masters of Rockford, MI; great-grandchildren, Ruthanne Reinecke, Claire Fether, Caleb Fether, Logan Fether, Dylan Fether, Caden Goldsmith, Brea Goldsmith, Audrey Goldsmith, Zoe Fether, Dominic Fether, and Calla Fether; step-great-grandchildren, Mason Masters, Benjamin Masters, and Henry Masters ; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
In addition to his parents and wife, Zale was preceded in death by three brothers, Garald Fether, and Doyle and Ivan Fether, both in infancy.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 26, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci, with Rev. Gene Sugg officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Morenci. The family will receive friends for a visitation on Tuesday afternoon, from 4-8 p.m.
