Lyle W. Rice

Lyle W. Rice, 74, of Litchfield, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2017 after a long battle with cancer. He was born November 20, 1942, in Litchfield to Merrill and Kathryn (Ochsenrider) Rice who preceded him in death.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years Sandy (Wheeler) Rice. His three children; son, Terry Rice and wife Laurie of Litchfield, Daughter, Noelle Karasek and husband John of Michigan center and son, Casey and wife Courtney Rice of Coldwater. Two step children; Amy Hickey and husband David of East Bridgewater, MA. and David Croad and wife Lekiesha of Concord. Six adoring grandchildren; Jesse, Cassidy, Conner, Damien, Rylee and Kolton. Five loving step grandchildren; Blake, Robert, James, Cylas and Liam.
Lyle was one of seven brothers and sisters; Deanne Addison Brooks of Litchfield, Susie and Joe Tiernan of Jackson, Lynn Guss of Jackson, Larry and Judy Rice of Litchfield, Nancy Watson of Jonesville, Ron and Lori Rice of Allen, and Gary Rice of Homer and many nieces and nephews. Lyle also thought the world of his countless friends and extended family.
Lyle enjoyed farming for most of his life, He began driving a tractor at the age of eight mowing hay with his dad. He graduated from Litchfield High in 1961. Continued farming after graduation and enlisted in the US National guard from 1964-1970. He began working as a tool and dye operator at Simpsons 1965 until he became ill in 1995. He farmed with his dad until his father could no longer farm and then began farming with his son Terry. If you saw Lyle he was rarely without his backhoe or one of his several Oliver tractors that were his pride and joy. Even at the end he would take out his backhoe almost daily. Lyle loved to take care of the roads, mowing the sides and plowing his neighbors in the winter. The loss of Lyle Rice will be felt throughout our small community.

A Celebration of Life for Lyle W. Rice will be Sunday, September 17, 2017 at 1:00 PM at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield with Reverend Clyde Wonders officiating. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 11AM until the time of service at 1:00.
