James R. "Jim" Magda

James R. "Jim" Magda, age 84, of Jonesville, passed away Thursday, October 19, 2017 at his home. He was born November 12, 1932 in Detroit to Michael and Helen (Szkatulski) Magda. Jim married Janice Hotchkiss on May 10, 1958 and she survives.
Jim graduated from Jonesville High School in 1950 and served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He formerly worked for Vaco Products in Jonesville, Briner Oil and later retired from Roost Oil. Jim also enjoyed produce farming. Together with his wife, Jim enjoyed canning and cooking. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church and a talented craftsman of dream catchers and walking sticks.
In addition to his wife, Janice, Jim is survived by his daughter, Cynthia Magda of Commerce Twp., Michigan; two sons, Patrick (Anita) Magda of Story, Wyoming and Kevin (Cynthia) Magda of Jonesville; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sister, Dorothy (Lennard) Yanovich of Carmel, Indiana and two brothers, Gerald (Annette) Magda and Edward "Tom" (Romaine) Magda, both of Jonesville.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and three siblings, Betty, Albert and Richard.
A funeral Mass for James Magda will be held Tuesday, October 24, 2017 at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Hillsdale with Fr. David Reamsnyder officiating. Interment will take place at a later date at Mosherville Cemetery. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday from 6-8 PM at Eagle Funeral Home in Jonesville.
Memorial contributions are suggested to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Hospice of Hillsdale County.
