Vivian Viola Guss

Vivian Viola Guss, 102, of Jackson, formerly of Posey Lake, rural Hudson, died Sunday afternoon, November 5, 2017, with her daughter at her side at Henry Ford Allegiance Health in Jackson. Born New Year’s Day 1915, at home in Hudson, she was the daughter of the late Jay and Clara (Heslet) Pittenger.
A 1933 graduate of Hudson High School, Vivian worked as a medical assistant for Drs. W. Huntley and A. O. Abraham for over 40 years. She was a member of the Hudson American Legion Post #180 Ladies Auxiliary and the Lady Moose Lodge #892 in Adrian. She enjoyed being in the company of others, playing cards, bowling and dancing.
Surviving are a daughter, Paula Watts of Jackson; sister-in-law, Lorene Pittinger of Sturgis; a nephew, Thomas (Dixie) Pittenger; three nieces, Lynn Guss, Cheryl Buchler, and Joan (William) VanArsdalen; and several great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two husbands, Paul Treadwell and Glenn Guss; brother, Jay R. Pittenger; a nephew, Rick Guss; and her longtime companion, Paul Meredith.
A funeral service for Vivian will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017, at 2:30 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson with Father Joseph Krupp officiating. Burial will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. The family will receive friends for a visitation for an hour preceding the service, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Memorial contributions in honor of Vivian are suggested to Associated Charities of Lenawee County or the American Cancer Society.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Patricia Lamb and the staff at RidgeCrest Health Campus for the compassionate care she received during the last four years of her life.
