A skilled, self-taught tool and die maker, Boze worked at five factories throughout his life, including Gerity in Adrian, and eventually retired from Fayette Tubular in 1987. He was also a part-time carpenter and a “jack-of-all-trades,” who spent some of his off hours hunting, as well as fishing on Bean Creek.
Boze had a passion for horses and spent many years breaking horses for other riders. He also enjoyed raising birds of all varieties including pheasants, quail, pigeons, peacocks and turkeys.
He was a lifelong member of the Morenci Eagles Lodge.
While Boze took pride in his work and loved his hobbies, his greatest joys in life were his grandson, Blake Jones, and great-grandson, Emmett.
In addition to his wife of 70 years, and his grandsons, Boze is survived by his children Linda L. Gottschalk, of Milan, Steve A. Speelman, of Clinton, and Pamela K. Speelman, of Milan.
Also surviving are siblings Betty (Donald) Pfund, of Morenci, Earl “John” Shirley Speelman, of Morenci, Florence Lane, of Hudson, and Gerald “Gene” (Mary) Speelman, of Adrian.
Boze was preceded in death by his parents, as well as sisters, Ella Mae Barnhart, Flora Montague, Juanita Shoemaker, and brother Wade Speelman. He also lost a son, J.F., in infancy.
Cremation has taken place and no public services will be held. Arrangements were handled by the Eagle Funeral Home in Morenci.
