Bonnie J. Garland

Bonnie J. Garland 81, of Hudson, died Thursday, December 28, 2017 at her home. She was born February 8, 1936, in Wayland, MI, to Walter J. and Lottie B. (Hathaway) Frantz.
After graduating from Hudson Area High School in 1954, she married the love of her life, John “Jack” Garland on December 5, 1955, in Hudson. They shared 62 happy years of marriage and raised two children.
Bonnie owned and operated a beauty salon in Hudson in the early years of her marriage. During that time, she also enjoyed taking flying lessons and earned a student pilot’s license.
In the late 1970s, Bonnie went back to school and received a bachelor’s degree in social services and criminal justice from Siena Heights College. She worked for several years at Maurice Spear Campus as a staff supervisor and campus superintendent before becoming a probation officer with the Lenawee County Probate Court, Juvenile Division.
After moving to Arizona, Bonnie continued her employment in the court system, working as a probation officer for the Maricopa County Adult Probation Department, Superior Court, Criminal Division, in Phoenix. She was also an appointed member of Foster Review Board of the State of Arizona for Superior Court Services.
Upon retiring from the court system, she volunteered as a case worker for the American Red Cross, Emergency Family Services, located at the Luke Air Force Base in Glendale, AZ. She was also a hospital and auxiliary programs volunteer.
In 2002, the Garlands returned to Michigan where they resided in the Houghton Lake area.
In addition to her husband, Bonnie is survived by a daughter, Gwen Kozlowski of Ida, MI; a grandson, Cody Kozlowski; one sister, Carole (Jim) Darr, of Hudson, MI; two brothers, Dorman Frantz of Rollin, MI, and Dean Frantz of Adrian, MI; a sister in-law, Myone Frantz of Hudson; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gary Garland in 2003; one sister, Betty Howell, and two brothers, Lewis “Buster” Frantz and Dale Frantz.
Private graveside services for Bonnie will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery in Hudson. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Bonnie can be made to Hospice of Lenawee.
