Robert Joseph Kuhn
August 16, 1936 - February 7, 2018
Robert Joseph Kuhn, 81, of rural Hudson, died Wednesday evening, February 7, 2018, at his home, surrounded by his family while under the gentle care of Hospice of Hillsdale County. Born August 16, 1936, in Detroit, Robert was the son of the late Ernest and Stella (Godfrey) Kuhn.
Bob lived his formative years in Detroit, where he graduated from Northwestern high school and later served as an Audio/Visual Teacher at the former Finney High School. He married Judith Ann Sluder on April 11, 1964, in Detroit. He proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1962 – 1965.
Yearning for life in the country, Bob and Judy and their young family settled on a farm on Egypt Road in Pittsford Township, where they have made their home since. Bob began work at Consumers Energy in Adrian in 1969, where he worked for 25 years before retirement. He was a proud board member of their retirement group, the “Adrianites”. He was civically involved as a member of the Pittsford Library Board, and the Pittsford Planning Commission, as well as its Board of Review. He was a 31-year member of the Hudson American Legion Post 180. He also belonged to the Adopt A Highway for Concerned Citizens of Pittsford Township, and served as its coordinator for 10 years.
Bob loved cutting wood and gardening – both vegetables and flowers – and he was proud to share his bountiful harvests with everyone. Bob is remembered and admired for his strong work ethic and his particular attention to detail. He always had projects going on, be it on his farm or fulfilling a call to duty for someone else. He had a giving heart, and always had time for people in need.
Surviving are his wife of over 53 years, Judy; three children, Kevin (Carmen) Kuhn of Berkley, MI, Jane Stewart (and David Whitson) of Hudson, and Douglas Kuhn (Dr. William Narrow) of Albuquerque, NM; four grandchildren, Alyssa, Ellie, “Nancy” Jared, and Jozelyn; six great-grandchildren, Sytcka, Amirah, Kevin, Marcos, Basstian, and Leonardo; cherished nephew, Norman; and several in-laws, nieces and nephews.
In accordance with Robert’s wishes, cremation will take place. The family will receive friends at a memorial gathering in his honor on Sunday, February 18, 2018, from 1-4 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home in Hudson. A celebration of life honoring Bob’s life will be planned in the spring.
