Richard Leslie McRae
August 13, 1944 - March 20, 2018
Richard Leslie McRae, 73, travelled to join others who have passed before him on March 20, 2018. Richard was born in Belleville, Michigan August 13, 1944. He resided in Reading, Michigan for several years, residing most recently in Zephyrhills, Florida.
After graduating from Quincy High School in 1964, Richard enlisted in the United States Army serving honorably in Viet Nam and Fort Benning, Georgia. He worked several years within the industrial career field. Richard was also a member of the Allen Knights of Pythions.
Richard was an avid fan of the Detroit Tigers, he also enjoyed planting flowers. Richard kept a vigilant watch over his many bird feeders fending off hungry squirrels by tossing them gently by their tails.
Richard is survived by one brother, Alan (Carol) McRae. Also surviving are three sisters, Darlene Leavitt, Linda (Lamar) From, and Nancy (Steve) Marson, along with several nieces and nephews and cousins. He is also survived by his companion of many years, Ms. Donna Van Gessel.
Richard is preceded in death by his wife, Katherine McRae, parents Donald and Loretta McRae, brother Lee McRae, sisters Geraldine Hollingsworth and Judith McRae, sister in-law Carolyn McRae, brother in-law Bill Leavitt and nephew Aaron Leavitt.
A celebration of life will take place April 14, 2018 at the Eagle Funeral Home George White Chapel in Quincy, Michigan. Visitation will take place from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The celebration of Richard’s life will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Mark McRae officiating. Interment will take place immediately following the service at the Allen Cemetery, Allen, Michigan.
Military honors will be rendered by the American Legion Drill Team from Post #52 located in Coldwater, Michigan.
