He was born in Detroit on December 10, 1943 to Arthur and Isabel (Hunter) Bechler. Mr. Bechler married his wife, Beth (Packer) on June 5, 1970 and lived in what he liked to refer to as Moscow Heights where he collected antique fire trucks and spent many years competing in the fire musters with his boys and their Dalmatian dogs.
Frank was a graduate of Jonesville High School and entered the US Army in 1965. He served his country as a reservist, being deployed in many capacities, including the Detroit riots in 1967-68. He began working at Weidner Sales & Service while in high school and continued when it became the Tanke John Deere dealership. He drove their semi-truck to Iowa, Illinois, and Canada in order to pick up new equipment and was their lawn and garden serviceman and delivery man. He left John Deere to drive full time as a Teamster for LJ Bel & Son, hauling bulk cement in three states, and boasting of a safe driving record of over two million miles. Changing jobs to be home more with his family, Frank went to work at Hillsdale College on grounds and maintenance where he retired in 2015 after 27 years.
In addition, Mr. Bechler was featured in many magazines for his unique ability to design and build specialty John Deere lawn and garden tractors. His knowledge of pumps and mechanical things in general kept him in high demand for assistance and technical advice.
He served as captain and training officer for the Moscow Fire Department 30 years and township trustee for 26 years. He was a member of Countryside Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife, Beth; sons, Jamy (Tabitha) Of Barberton, OH and Corey (Stacey) of Honor, MI; grandchildren, Devin Versailles, Ava Sophie, and Jaylen; and sisters, Mary Parkhill and Caroline Sheely.
