Charlene June (Fowle) Goldsmith
June 2, 1932 - June 2, 2018
Charlene June Goldsmith of Hillsdale was called to God on her 86th birthday Saturday, at her home. She was born June 2, 1932 in Hillsdale, Michigan to William and Vesta (Higbie) Fowle. Charlene married Cecil Goldsmith on March 20, 1950 and he preceded her in death on December 22, 2005.
Charlene attended Hillsdale High School and later worked as the bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward in Adrian. For many years, Charlene was the Innkeeper and Restaurant Manager at the Holiday Inn in Adrian, where she met many exciting celebrities. Charlene also managed the Siena Heights Mother House.
She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hillsdale. On September 14, 2016 she received the Mustard Seed Award for her years of ministry contributing, writing and sending cards of encouragement to shut-ins and people who were ill. Charlene had a servant heart that was evident in her willingness to drop everything to help those in need, especially her family.
She loved life. She loved road trips, she loved to drive, she loved going to lunch, and she loved visiting family and friends. She played a mean game of Rummikub. But when her health began to fail and she could no longer do the things she loved, her great faith made her ready to meet her Lord. All of us who knew her are happy for her but we will miss her deeply.
Survivors include daughter, Patricia Goldsmith and partner Karen Fetty of Hudson, New York; son, Jim Goldsmith and partner Isabel Benvenuto of Chester, New York; grandson, Ryan Goldsmith of Chester, New York and brother, James (Shirley) Fowle of Hillsdale.
In addition to her husband, Cecil Goldsmith, Charlene was preceded in death by her parents; son, Cecil Jr. in infancy; one sister, Phyllis, and five brothers, Herbert, Robert, Richard, William and Gerald.
