Christine Culy Forrister
September 3, 1947 - June 11, 2018
Christine Culy Forrister, 70, of Coldwater, passed away unexpectedly Monday, June 11, 2018 at Borgess Medical Center. Cremation has taken place and per Christine’s wishes there will be a celebration of life to be held at a later date.
Christine was born September 3, 1947 to Fred and Dorothy (Curtis) Culy in Lansing, MI. She graduated from Coldwater High School in 1965 and went on to receive her BA from University of Michigan and MA from Michigan State University. She continued her education at Oxford University in Oxford, England.
In 1975 Christine married the love of her life, Allan Forrister, and with the help of her older brother, Fred, the couple built the home on Coldwater Lake where she would reside the rest of her life.
Christine was a teacher at Quincy Community Schools for 35 years, retiring in 2007. After retirement she continued teaching as a volunteer at the elementary level for Coldwater Community Schools. She insisted on volunteering saying that seeing the smiles on the children’s faces as they learned something new was compensation enough. The consummate educator, Christine tutored countless young people as they prepared for college entrance exams. Christine’s infectious laugh, positive attitude and willingness to help anyone, anytime, are remembered by all who knew her. She enjoyed reading, gardening, golfing, bowling, boating, travelling and the occasional glass or two of wine with her many friends but what she loved most of all was spending time with and shuttling her grandchildren, Sarah and Sam to all of their various activities.
Along with her husband Allan and father Fred, Christine is survived by her younger brother Jeff (Kathy) Culy, son Jim (Debra) Forrister, daughter Amy (Bob) McCarthy, sister-in-law Dorothy (Tim) Martin, niece’s Laura (Tony) Trojanowski, Alissa (Mac) Persails, Shannon (Tom) Reynolds and nephew’s Dr. Alex (Emily) Culy and Don (Shelly) Dudek. She is also survived by four grandchildren, one great grandson and twelve great nieces and nephews, all of whom were the absolute light of her life. Christine was proceeded in death by her mother Dorothy, brother Fred, and niece Tracie.
In lieu of flowers or donations, please give a child a book, read to them and encourage them to read every day. Never stop learning. There is no substitute for knowledge.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy.
