Albert C. Gaige Sr.

May 2, 1919 - June 30, 2018

Albert C. Gaige Sr., 99, of Litchfield, passed away Saturday, June 30, 2018, at home. He was born May 2, 1919, in Manchester to Melvin Judson and Della (Wilde) Gaige. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII where he was awarded two Bronze Stars around the D-Day offensive and was a self-employed master plumbing contractor. Albert married Nancy Wolfe in November of 1984 and she survives.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Manchester American Legion #0117, and the Litchfield United Methodist Church. Along with his wife, he was active in the Mobile Missionaries Assistance Program (MMAP) for 10 years and enjoyed riding in local parades as an honored veteran. He enjoyed electric toy trains and collecting coins and Jim Beam whiskey bottles.

In addition to his wife of 32 years, Nancy, survivors include two daughters, Jan (Larry) Baker of Perrysburg, Ohio, and Brenda Comer; five sons, Albert Gaige, Jr., of Sheperdstown, West Virginia, David (Teresa), Steven, (Marcie), Brian (Sue), and Doug (Jennifer); one sister, Barbara Nieman of Northern Michigan; one brother, Larry Gaige of Brooklyn; three grandchildren, Tad, Clint, and Tara Gaige, plus several step-grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his first wife; one son, Melvin Gaige; siblings, Thelma Knickerbocker, William Gaige, Dorothy Frank, Wilda Esch, Charles Gaige, Vesta Gaige, Gloria Hamann, and Judson Gaige.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 6, 2018, at the Litchfield United Methodist Church with Reverend Mary Sweet officiating. Visitation is scheduled on Thursday, July 5, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield. Interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July, 9, 2018, at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek. Arrangements are entrusted to the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Litchfield.
